Harvest: The extraction of the latex should be carried out without knocking down the tree, with the shiringuero method, by means of the spiral cut or the V-shaped cut, on the bark of the shaft at chest height. With the spiral cut practiced in the sense of left to right, a greater performance of latex is achieved. The factors that influence the performance of latex are: solar radiation, diameter of the tree, foliage, angle of cut, precipitation and moon phase, being the most convenient between crescent and full moon. The yield of latex in a morning in flood zones and rainy season, was 250 cc in trees of 35 cm in diameter and 2 000 cc in trees of 50 cm in diameter. In Ucayali, flowering occurs from June to August, fruiting in September. It is considered that the plantation achieves economically profitable yields from the eighth year of sowingght of 2 m (6' 6"), with alternate, heart shaped, serrated leaves, 10 to 12 cm long (4"-4.7") and 8 to 10 cm (3.1-3.9") wide, that have petioles 2–6 cm (0.8-2.3") long. It flowers five months after being planted, and bears seeds around the eighth month. The male flowers are small, white, and arranged in clusters. Two female flowers are located at the base of the inflorescence. In tropical locations it is often a vine requiring support and producing seeds nearly year-round.
