Buriti Oil - (Mauritia Flexuosa, Arecaceae)

This gorgeous oil comes from the tallest palm in the forest, from fruits that we would imagine look like Dragon Eggs, it sounds like magic and it is! Buriti oil is one of the richest natural sources of beta-carotene and essential for your skin and hair care.

  • Extraction Method: pulp centrifugation.

  • Quality: 100 % pure, extracted by centrifugation without any chemical treatment, cosmetic quality.

  • Country of origin: Brazil - wild harvested.

  • Appearance:  orange to deep red liquid oil.

  • Smell: earthy, slightly sweet.

  • Touch: thin, oily.

  • For chemical data and fatty acid composition refer to pictures.

Buriti oil is high in oleic acid (72%) and one of the richest known natural sources of beta-carotene (5 times higher than carrot oil.) Beta carotene is one of the most powerful antioxidants known for its high capacity of cell re-newel, and is great for aging-well formulas, due to its ability to increase skin elasticity.

The rich unsaturated fatty acids in Buriti Fruit Oil help to rebuild and moisturize skin cells.

Due to its ability to absorb radiation in the range of visible and ultraviolet light, Buriti is used by the cosmetic industry solar filters and after sun care.

PROPERTIES:

  • Skin healing properties

  • Skin Soothing Properties

  • Leaves a natural glow on skin (darker skin)

  • Absorbs solar radiation

  • Powerful antioxidant properties

APPLICATIONS:

  • Mature aging skin

  • Dry and cracked skin

  • Weak, dry and frizzy hair (dark hair)

  • After sun skincare

  • Tanning

This oil WILL stain light fabrics and make light skin look ORANGE, it also does not work for light bleached hair.  It does give an absolutely beautiful glow, natural tan color to darker skin types. For lighter skins I recommend mixing it with another light carrier oil, or use it in a butter/oil blend.

BIOLOGY

Buriti is tall palm tree (Mauritia vinifera and M. flexuosa), it can reach 35 meters and forms large leaves with a rounded crown, their leaves and stalks are used for basket weaving and other crafts. The flowers are yellowish, and appear from December to April. Its fruits are chestnut colored, and have a surface coated with shiny scales. The fruits have a yellow flesh and the juice and sweets made from it are very popular in the northern part of Brazil. I absolutely love seeing their beautiful crowns at distance when I am on boats in the forest.
